Dr. Sylvain received a BA in Philosophy and Classical Languages from Don Bosco College, in Newton, New Jersey in 1973. He received his D.O. degree from the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific, in Pomona, California, in 1993, completed an undergraduate fellowship in Osteopathic Principles and Practices in 1994 and a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Residency at Michigan State University in 1998. From 1998 to 2001 he served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and as Medical Director of the MSU/Peckham Industries Comprehensive Brain Injury Rehabilitation Program at Origami. From 2001 to 2009 Dr. Sylvain conducted a private practice in California where he also served as Chair of the Department of Medicine at Watsonville Community Hospital and as President of the California Society of PM&R. In June, 2009 Dr. Sylvain accepted an MSU COM re-appointment as Associate Professor and AOA Residency Director in the Department of PM&R. He currently serves as Co- Medical Director of the Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit at Sparrow Hospital and as Chair of the Department of PM&R.
