Mathew Saffarian, DO, Fellowship Director

Dr. Saffarian received his undergraduate degree from Alma College, where he played four years of varsity soccer, prior to starting medical school at Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Michigan State University, where he served as chief resident his fourth year. Following residency, he completed a two year fellowship program in Interventional Spine, Electrodiagnostic Medicine, and Sports Medicine at Michigan State University. Dr. Saffarian is currently board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Electrodiagnostic Medicine, Pain Medicine, and Sports Medicine.

Dr. Saffarian serves as a Team Physician with Michigan State University Athletics and an Associate Professor through the College of Osteopathic Medicine. He was named the Program Director for the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Interventional Spine and Pain Medicine Fellowship program. Nationally, he serves on the Patient Safety Committee for the Spine Intervention Society and the Ultrasound Committee for the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine.

Michael Andary, DO, Fellowship Associate Director

Dr. Andary received his Bachelor of Science degree from Lyman Briggs Biology, with high honors at Michigan State University in 1979. He attended Medical School at Wayne State University receiving his Doctorate of Medicine in 1983, and completed a residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Washington, Seattle Washington, in 1987. He completed a Clinical Fellowship in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine and Pain Service in 1988. His areas of focus were pain and electrodiagnostic medicine. In 1989 he obtained a Master of Science Degree from the University of Washington, Seattle Washington.

Dr. Andary is Board Certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine and the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation certified in the Subspecialty of Pain Medicine.

Dr. Andary is the ACGME Residency Program Director. He has held teaching positions at Wayne State University, and The University of Washington and is a Professor at Michigan State University. He has recently served as an Oral Board Examiner for both the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine and American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. In addition to teaching Dr. Andary is the Co- Medical Director of the Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit at Sparrow Hospital, Associate Medical Director at Hope Network Brain Injury Rehabilitation Program, the Medical Director of the Neurodiagnostic Lab at McLaren Hospital of Greater Lansing. He has an outpatient and inpatient EMG, TBI and general rehabilitation practice.

Dr. Andary has published numerous abstracts, chapters, peer review articles and editorials.

Dr. Andary is Past President (2008-9) of the American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine and is currently a on the Board of Directors for the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine and Mary FreeBed Rehabilitation Hospital in Grand Rapids MI.

He is a member of the following association and he serves on several professional and community boards:

Nathan Condie, DO, Fellowship Associate Director

Dr. Nathan Condie received his undergraduate degree from University of Nevada Las Vegas in 2005. He received his Osteopathic degree from Midwestern University Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2009. He completed his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Michigan State University where he served a co-chief resident in his fourth year. Following residency, he completed an interventional spine and EMG fellowship at Michigan State University. After fellowship he moved to Utah and joined a private practice interventional spine group. After about 2 years he returned to Michigan State University and joined the faculty in 2016. Dr. Condie is Board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, EMG and Pain Medicine. Dr. Condie is the current clinical director at the Eyde office and also serves on university-based committees.

Ryan O’Connor, DO, Fellowship Associate Director

Dr. O’Connor obtained his BA from the American University in Washington, D.C. in 1991. He attended Medical School at Nova- Southeastern University, College of Osteopathic Medicine and received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine in 1995. He completed his PM&R Residency at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Center NYC, New York. In 2000, he completed a Fellowship in Sports, Musculoskeletal and Electrodiagnostic Medicine at the Michigan State University Dept of COM and the College of Human Medicine.

Dr. O’Connor is Diplomate of the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation with a subspecialty of Pain Medicine, the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine, and the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

From 1999 to 2002 Dr. O’Connor was a Clinical Instructor with the MSU COM Dept of PM&R and the MSU Sports Medicine Clinic, he continues his affiliation with MSU COM Dept of PM&R as a Clinical Assistant Professor. In 2002, Dr. O’Connor entered Private Practice at Lansing Orthopedic PC where he still practices. His clinical skills include EMG’s, Injection Procedures, Manual Medicine/Manipulation and he is trained in performing IME’s and disability exams.
